Corcoran recalls her father as a man who sometimes was a drinker and was rude to her mother and condescension, particularly after he'd consumed alcohol. Corcoran struggled with her education and was eventually diagnosed with dyslexia. Corcoran was educated at a Catholic elementary and then started high school in Englewood at St. Cecilia High School. Corcoran was absent from several classes in her first year, and then transferred to Leonia High School where she was an A student.
