Her middle name "Chrishell" is a portmanteau, is an omen of the bizarre circumstances under the birthing process: her mother gave birth in the Shell station. Chris, an attendant was present to assist in the delivery of her baby. Strause claims that the gossip surrounding her birth is false. She shared that her mother was having issues with her car and pulled into the gas station. In the midst of waiting for her turn, she was admitted to pre-labor and was assisted by the car attendant who helped her get to the hospital. Strause was born in a hospital. Prior to knowing she was pregnant her mother broke up with her biological father, who was half Japanese and half Spanish. Jeff is her stepfather. Chrishell Strause was forced to be in a tent for one year in middle school. Strause described washing her hair by the river and eating food stamps to conceal her identity from her peers. When she turned 10 years old, her parents "struggled with addictions and mental health." Strause then joined the Worldwide Church of God. Strause says her mother was having a self-righteous and free spirit. Her mother didn't have an occupation that was steady.
